The Best Ways To Protect Your Dog From Tick Bites
The Latin or scientific name is important here – it’s geranium. Some essential oils are labeled rose geranium, while others are labeled only geranium. This is the key to Latin names.

I’ve used 1-2 drops of geranium oil directly on my dog’s back between the shoulder blades (as suggested by chemical repellants) with great results. My vet approved this too.

This flea spray has been very effective on our dogs. For best results use every 3-4 days.

Over the past two decades or so, this conundrum has prompted researchers around the world to seek natural ways to keep ticks off property and people, with little success.
How To Get Rid Of Fleas On A Dog Naturally
In the words of the Chinese philosopher and military strategist Sun Tzu, one must “know oneself and know the enemy” before going to war. This is especially important when dealing with fleas, which have important habits and weaknesses to exploit.
The two most common ticks in the United States, the American dog tick and the black-legged tick, seek out, or “find,” hosts by perching on plants and waiting for them to pass by. They then grab fur, hair, or animal (or human) clothing with their front legs and climb onto the boat.
“It’s what we call an ambush strategist,” said Kirby Stafford, chief scientist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station and state entomologist.
Ticks also use plants as protection from sunlight, which dries them out. Black-legged ticks are particularly vulnerable to drought, Stafford said.
This Is What To Do When You Find Ticks In The House
So simply mowing your lawn can reduce the number of mites you see on your property. Short grass does not provide enough cover for some pests to survive. Leaf sweeping, shrub pruning, and tree pruning can also help reduce the number of certain pests in your yard.
“In a recent study, we found that defoliation is very important for the survival of black-legged ticks,” said Chuck Lubelchik, a field biologist in the Lyme and Vector-Borne Diseases Laboratory at the Maine Medical Center Research Institute. “These ticks are very aggressive and require more hunting strategies,” Stafford said, adding that more research is being done on how to deal with these dangerous ticks.
