Homemade Spray To Get Rid Of Mosquitoes – Fortunately, I’m one of those people who get endlessly bitten and stung by these winged vampires.
They can ruin your summer fun if you let them, so I try to keep them away.
Homemade Spray To Get Rid Of Mosquitoes
This year, instead of getting wet with chemicals, I decided to make a more natural pest control.
Natural Mosquito Repellent
I wonder how well it works. No more smell and mess of store bought bug spray.
The only downside I can see so far is that you have to apply it a bit more than a traditional store spray, but it’s not enough to put me off.
I knew I wanted to do a natural version. Now, you can use herbs if you want, but it seems easier to put a cap in a small jar of oil and skip the growing, harvesting, and boiling that goes into using fresh herbs.
Also, I didn’t want to use too many ingredients, so I basically left out 2 essential oils, water, and witch hazel.
Homemade Mosquito Repellent Sprays That Work Best
Witch hazel helps to mix oil and water (or “emulsify” if I want to put my college chemistry to work). Some people use rubbing alcohol instead of witch hazel, which has the same idea, only it’s stronger when sprinkled on the cut.
Rose geranium oil is especially helpful for ticks, so if you have a tick problem in your area, add 20 drops to the recipe.
Both the amber and cobalt blue bottles block harmful UV rays from the oil. Also, glass containers are best because oil can break down plastic over time.
The cute yellow bottles I got have a frosted finish on the outside of the bottle and come with a little funnel, dropper and a write-on label (not too cute though).
Stem Repels Mosquitoes ,deet Free Mosquito Repellent Spray With Botanical Extracts, 4 Ounce (pack Of 3)
They are so cute, aren’t they? I made them myself and you can get free labels here (for personal use only).
The label says a 4oz bottle (my bottle says 3.4oz but is it actually 4oz?). When you draw them on your computer and click on the printer icon, be sure to print them at their original size.
The leaves have green and yellow edges that will show if you want variety.
To attach them to the bottle, you can cut them out of the foil and stick them on the label using a bit of large duct tape. 3-4 pieces of duct tape will also work.
How To Keep Mosquitoes Away
Do not spray near eyes; If necessary, spray a little on the face, avoiding the eyes, and rub the face.
Essential oils are generally safe for your skin, but some people (especially young children) are very sensitive to natural ingredients. If you’re worried about being one of those people, you can spray it on your clothes instead of on your skin.
Oh, and before you forget, no need to buy expensive oils. Don’t even think about it. It’s just a destructive spray!
Besides, I bought a few oil products last year, but I’m not a very good oil expert. I just did some research and found that these oils are good for winged vamps.
