Every time I look at the picture I can’t believe we bought our house in this condition! Now I look back and wonder: “What were we thinking!” Yes yes yes! But now that our house is coming with slow, budget-friendly updates, we dream about it.

We updated our laundry room in stages to save money and update our laundry room on a budget. These steps weren’t planned but happened in stages… It’s a great way to update your home slowly without spending a ton of money!
Fun And Functional Small Laundry Room
We added the upper cabinet we took from the kitchen. We were lucky that the upper cabinets we removed from the kitchen fit perfectly in the laundry room!
Following this tutorial for painting kitchen cabinets, I painted the cabinets gray (then painted them white).
I then added Peel and Stick Metro Tile Wallpaper and Floral Wallpaper from Dollar Tree (you can read all about the wallpaper, where to get it, and how to apply it in this post).
We attached shipboard plywood to the wall with coat hooks and I made a giant sign that said Wash and Fold.

Our laundry room stayed like this for about 1.5 years until we decided to update our mudroom entry closet.
Having a large mudroom means we no longer need a bench in the laundry room, so I decided to go back to the sink in the laundry room. Luckily my husband just sealed the plumbing and built a bench around the plumbing in case we wanted to put a sink in there.
I decided to sand and paint the tile floor in the laundry room. I used the awesome Cutting Edge Stencil stencil (found here ) and white chalk paint. I sealed the floor with water-based polyurethane.
The next update in our laundry room update was getting rid of the popcorn ceiling. The simplest solution was to cover the roof with bead boards.

We also added fun ceiling lights with remotes to control active mood, temperature and motion.
After about a month, I noticed that the grout on my beautiful tile floor was starting to yellow 🙁 So I decided to paint the entire floor Benjamin Moore Gray.
After painting the floor, we were ready to add the sink and DIY sink to the room.
We made a base for the laundry sink. We did this makeover using wood and basic measurements in our laundry basket (yay!). I wanted a custom basket that would fit under the faucet and sink, so I had my husband build the sink to those dimensions.

We made the base and then went to buy the sink. We found our sink at Your Home Discount Warehouse, a local Home Depot retailer, and found a great deal on it!
After the sink was installed over the sink, we used an old sink faucet until we got the perfect laundry faucet from Vigo.
