Remodeling Small Bathroom Ideas On A Budget – It took me a while to write this article, but I’m excited to finally share all the details about our small bathroom renovation on a budget, including what we did and what we wish we did. Do it differently!

The “before” version of our guest bathroom is a pretty common sight, as brown tile and gold granite countertops were very popular with home builders a few years ago.

But the combination of beige floor and bathroom tiles, cherry wood paneling and gold granite ceiling is too dark for me. With no windows in this small room, it really looked like a cave when you entered.

In fact, the bathroom was even darker before, because the walls are also beige! However, I painted them white a few years ago, with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, which made a huge difference.

I love the lighter and brighter feel of this small bathroom right now. She went from the darkest room in our house to the lightest room!

To stay within our budget (which was originally $1,000, but ended up spending closer to $1,200), we kept the original bathroom layout and reused the same vanity, toilet, tub, mirror, shower head, towels, and faucet.

I might add new faucets here – I’m amazed the ones we have are still in such good shape after 11 years!

The first thing we did was add a fresh coat of paint to the scythes, using Benjamin Moore’s Van Deusen Blue.

If you remember, when we remodeled our kitchen, we paid someone to paint all the cabinets. They came in, taped everything, removed the old hardware, cleaned all the cabinets, lightly sanded, primed, painted, took our cabinet doors and drawer pieces to their shop to spray paint, then installed, along with our new handles, a few days later. It was wonderful!

Bathroom Remodeling So, in order to keep my bathroom remodeling costs down, I decided to try painting the cabinets.

This was my first time trying to paint the cabinets, but I figured if it didn’t work, I’d just squeeze the cost of a new vanity into our budget.

Luckily, I was surprised at how easy it was to paint our vanity – and how well it turned out!

Next, we replaced the old spirit lamps with these globe pendants. I ordered them in the brass finish because I planned to eventually change the cabinet hardware and faucets to brass.

Later, I decided not to use brass here, so we painted the metal and plastic parts of each fixture with matte black paint.

I’m so glad we added these new light fixtures early in the renovation process because they added much needed light to the room, making our job a little easier while we tackled the rest of the projects here.

I had originally planned to paint the brown tiles around the bathroom with this product. However, after reading all the warnings about fumes etc, Dave offered to remove the old tile and replace it. (A revival!)

For the tub surround, we chose classic white subway tiles from Home Depot, an easy and economical decision. I opted for a longer 12″ version for a slightly different look.

Dave, with his amazing crafting skills, removed the old tiles in a few hours, but some of the tile was permanently stuck to the wall, so he ended up removing the entire old backer board and installing new ones.

This added an extra day to the project as he had to tape, mud and sand before he could start working with the tiles.

It is best to cover the bathtub with a piece of plywood so that it is not damaged during demolition.

I knew I wanted a white quartz countertop for my vanity, so I went to the kitchen and bath department at Lowe’s and ordered a custom quartz countertop and sink.

Since the clothes top is only about 5 feet long, we picked it up from the store and Dave installed it himself, which saved us quite a bit of money in fees.

However, once Dave finished sketching the tub and we saw how nice the new tile looked, we also decided to remove the old floor and put in new tile. I am

I’m glad we went that route, but I have to admit I’m curious what the stenciled floor would look like.

The tiled part of the site was in the first week of closure. Dave had a little more free time and was up for a project, so I bumped into Lowe one day, feeling weird about being out.

Normally, I would have been hanging around the row of tiles forever, trying to make the perfect choice. But that day I grabbed the first tile I saw that I liked (I knew I wanted something geometric), along with some grout and mortar, and off I went.

Maybe it was a good thing I had to make a quick decision because I ended up liking the tile I chose. It made a huge difference and helped tie the whole bathroom together.

Dave, on the other hand, wasn’t too keen on camping around and inside all the little tiles – so I probably wouldn’t make a choice again!

The last part of our DIY bathroom remodel was adding trim to our once flat cabinet doors to make them look more like shaker style bathroom cabinets.

Then Dave cut the strips to size and attached them to the front of the cabinets with glue and finish nails.

The extra 1/4″ width at the front of the cabinets makes them stick out a bit more than the drawers, but I don’t think most people will notice – and I like the look a lot better than the flat front.

We originally planned to spend $1,000; However, with the added cost of the new wall panel and some extra features, we slightly exceeded that amount.

I love that we were able to make this small bathroom feel like a whole new space, giving it a whole new look without making any structural changes—and (most importantly) staying within our budget. . !

Investing in a bathroom faucet, lighting, mirrors and cabinet handles for a DIY bathroom remodel doesn’t have to break the bank.
