Carly and Eric Storm enjoy spending time outdoors with their son George. So it only makes sense that they would want to create their own backyard oasis. To make this happen, the couple decided to go green and removed the sewage pond. “We saw the potential and broke it down into smaller projects: removing the pool, growing grass, starting landscaping, remodeling the deck and expanding,” says brand expert, photographer and video producer Carly Storm.

“Greenery and flowers make a beautiful yard,” says Storm. “Keep it even.” Both added a door, stairs and two windows at the back of their house for better access. “We felt this yard was part of our lives,” she said. Bonnie McGuire of BohoBonnie.com created an outdoor room in her backyard. “We know we’ll be spending a lot of time in the yard this summer, so it’s important to create a yard that feels like a home away from home,” she told Woman’s Day. “We built this DIY gazebo with a custom fire pit and enjoyed spending our evenings under the stars.”

Nicole Bowman of Bauhaus Design Co. feels her options are limited as a renter on a budget. “I wanted to find a way to turn this very uncomfortable place into my own little oasis,” she told Woman’s Day. tile. “I really wanted to retreat to California, so I focused on things that made me feel that way.”
Along with pots, Bowman used pencil and paint to add an accent floor to this backyard renovation.
If you’re thinking about doing something like this, Bowman says go for it. “No one feels very confident when trying something new, but you learn as you go,” she told Woman’s Day. “It’s a great beginner DIY because at the end of the day it’s just paint, and if it doesn’t turn out as you hoped, you can paint over it and try again.”

Haley MacDonald’s backyard wall was filled with balls her sons hit, kicked and threw, so she got the idea to turn it into art. So one weekend he made a multi-colored geometric wall painting.
“First I marked the wall with builders chalk lines, then used painter’s tape to mark the lines. Then I used a roller to paint the walls, one color at a time. “Because the wall was done in a harsh shade, it took two coats of each color to get the right coverage,” she says.
