For example, measurements do not take into account a person’s waist, chest, or hip measurements. This means that someone who may have very high muscle mass and low body fat may have a higher BMI than someone who has little or no physical activity.

And these fixes are enough to create quite a stir among our readers – and collectors around the world.
Since its debut in 2012, Pelagos has always been characterized by an uncompromising modern take on the diving watch. Could this new evolution be the Tudor many of us have been waiting for?
Over the past 10 years, more and more watch users, especially (though not exclusively) enthusiasts, want smaller watches. Or at least watches that are easier to wear every day. That means it’s not too wide, not too thick, and definitely not too long from ear to ear. As today’s collectors are influenced by vintage watches, there is a growing interest in watches that are closer in size to the smaller models of the past. The heyday of the 45mm Panerai gave way to an increasing number of 40mm to 43mm models (like more).

Many of us went crazy over the 41mm Black Bay and the 42mm titanium Pelagos. It’s like Tudor has its own sea creature, and it doesn’t look like a Rolex. All titanium, all matte, tons of glitter, world class bezel, helium escape valve, 500 meters water resistance and that self-adjusting clasp trick.
I’ve said it before, but gram for gram and spec for spec, the Pelagos is the best dive watch in the world, especially if you race with it. i have too I have spent countless hours on various Pelagos models, including a dive in Mexico in 2015.
But the truth is that SUVs are more popular than real SUVs, diving watches are more popular than diving. Few of us dive, and even fewer divers take a watch as a backup to a regular dive computer. People buy dive watches with features they will never need. If you allow me to paint with a very broad brush, if you look at the whole spirit of modern dive watches, they represent an aesthetic choice. Like preferring Iron Rangers to Chuck Taylors.
That said, I think the Pelagos has always been very suitable for most dive watches – size, price, specs, etc. – to be able to compete with the broad market and contemporary appeal of Black Bay. Personally speaking, no watch has put me on the fence more than the blue Pelagos. I love the look, the light, the tough specs, the titanium, the clasp, all of it. But every time I try it on, I feel like it’s too big for my wrist. If I got my hands on a watch like the Pelagos, I would want to wear it every day, all the time. And while 42mm wide and 14.3mm thick isn’t much for such a capable dive watch, 50mm from ear to ear is long for my seven-inch wrist.
Like many of you, I longed for a smaller view of Pelagos. Well, that’s it. The Pelagos 39 is Tudor’s first attempt to capture the general feel of the Pelagos, but bring it closer to the appeal of the very popular Black Bay Fifty-Eight.
The Pelagos 39 has arrived for Pelagos’ 10th anniversary, maintaining the original’s titanium lineage. During those 10 years, the Pelagos family grew and evolved, in 2015 with its own movement and a blue variant, in 2016 with a left-handed retro (called the Pelagos LHD), and then the polarizing but very cool Pelagos. FXD from 2021.
Looking at this short and light family tree, the Pelagos 39 marks the first evolution to make a common effort for a common commercial appeal. Previous iterations, with their stop sign design language, self-adjusting bracelets, and military purpose, have always strived to be the most complete and efficient dive watches (given the very specific FXD design feature).

As for the Pelagos 39, we see this format refracted through the faceted prism of Tudor’s current market success. We can follow the Pelagos beam as it enters and see where Pelagos 39 exits, splitting into its own path near the original beam.
