How To Get Rid Of Mosquitoes Outside Naturally – Here are instructions for making a mosquito trap out of a 2 liter plastic soda bottle. Simply add bait (honey, fruit, juice, sugar water or succulent flowers) and place it in a dark corner of the room. It works because mosquitoes want the sugar they need to survive. Once they’re in the bottle, they can’t get out.
The instructions above are an adaptation of a Taiwan Science Fair project that went viral. The difference between the original instructions and mine is that (1) I don’t recommend adding active dry yeast, (2) I recommend using sugar sources other than granulated sugar, and (3) I don’t wrap the trap in black paper. . The lack of yeast is because I don’t think carbon dioxide production is necessary to attract mosquitoes to the sugar. In fact, adding yeast probably reduces the attraction and spoils the bait quickly.

Don’t bother using these traps externally (virus versions are recommended). Mosquitoes prefer natural sources of sugar, so they can ignore whatever is in the container. Traps will also not work in rooms full of flowering plants or rotting fruit. Also, if your kids spill juice and soda everywhere, traps won’t work.
Ways To Keep Mosquitoes Off Your Deck Or Porch
If you have a home without small children and excitable pets, you can add boric acid to the solution to create an attractive toxic sugar bait station (ATSB). Then, when the mosquitoes swallow the liquid, they will die, even if they manage to get out of the trap (it can happen). In fact, when you have poisoned the water, you can remove the fan part of the trap – its presence can be an obstacle for some mosquitoes, regardless of the fact that it is relatively wide (~ 2 cm). Instead, cut a 3cm hole in the side and attach the cap to the bottle. Plants That Repel Mosquitoes
Look for dishes or children’s toys where water can collect and spill. Turn containers upside down when not in use to avoid collecting rainwater. Also check your gutters. If your gutters collect water, they may need to be cleaned or simply re-angled to drain properly.
It’s easy to remove water that collects on your fence. But if you have standing water under the floor, you are useless. If water collects under your fence, you have several possible options. If you have small puddles, you can try putting sand under the floor. The sand will absorb the water and prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs in the ponds. If you have larger puddles, you may need to install a drain. A French sink can work well under a deck to remove standing water.
If you have standing water on your floor that you can’t drain, you have other options. Another example would be birdbaths. Or maybe a piece of water. Since you cannot pour them, you can shake the water with a fountain or catch the water with mosquito nets or pieces. The fountain will circulate enough water to disturb the mosquito eggs. Mosquito repellents are products that can be added to standing water and release bacteria that kill mosquito larvae.
If you think you’ve removed all standing water from your floor, there’s one place to check. There may be standing water in the gutters above your patio that you can’t see. In that case, you need to get down and clean the gutters. Any standing water is an open invitation to mosquitoes and their eggs.

Mosquitoes like still air. In fact, it is nearly impossible for them to fly in winds over 2 mph. But you don’t have to wait for a windy day to go outside. This one is a bit questionable. But there are plants that are said to repel mosquitoes. Mosquitoes find their prey mainly by smell, so some of these fragrant plants can help repel them. Other recommended herbs include citronella, peppermint, rosemary and lemongrass. Make sure the pots you put in have adequate drainage. The last thing you need is a lot of standing water. Although this method is quite complicated, you have nothing to lose by trying it. At least your fence will smell nice!

Birds and bats are natural predators of mosquitoes. Both birds and bats eat mosquitoes and can help control the mosquito population in your yard. You can attract birds and bats with bird food or bird and bat boxes. Make sure feeders and nests do not collect standing water. As usual, anything that increases standing water is not a good mosquito repellent.
