Get Rid Of Fleas On Cats Naturally – Please. Once your cat gets them, getting rid of them without spraying your house with toxic chemicals can seem almost impossible!
And I have to admit, I’m guilty of going out quick and easy; However, there are several ways to naturally kill and prevent fleas that don’t require too much extra work and are much safer for you than any commercial flea spray.
Get Rid Of Fleas On Cats Naturally
The first natural remedy I look for is almost always herbs or essential oils (which are just concentrated versions of an herb).
At Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Fleas Quickly
Before I continue, note that some essential oils are quite toxic to cats, so even though you may have read that a certain oil is toxic to fleas, it can also poison your cat.
Here is a list of essential oils and herbs that are safe for cats and have flea repellent or insecticidal properties:
Catnip is an excellent option as an all-natural insect repellent for your cat, and conveniently, it’s already available in a wide variety of cat products. On the other hand, it is quite difficult to find it as an essential oil.
Consider sprinkling cat litter on your cat’s bedding or carpet after washing or vacuuming to prevent flea eggs and larvae that may be hiding in the fibers.
All Natural Ways To Win The War On Fleas
Cedar oil has been tested against fleas in a laboratory and found to be lethal to adult fleas. It is readily available from a number of trusted suppliers, making it a good choice for concentrated flea control.
After washing the cat to kill any existing fleas, consider adding a drop or two of cedarwood oil to its collar to prevent reinfestation. Cedarwood oil can also be used as a fabric spray that kills fleas when they hatch. I recommend mixing equal parts of water and vinegar in a glass spray bottle (other substances may interact negatively with the oils) and adding 10 drops of oil per cup of liquid. Just be sure to test the spray to make sure it won’t stain your furniture.
Rosemary baths are widely recommended for flea control, although I couldn’t find any research on the subject. Most people recommend making rosemary tea by boiling fresh rosemary in water on the stove, then pouring the (cold) tea over your pet and letting it dry without rinsing.
If rosemary is really effective against fleas, you should consider using it with cedar oil on the collar and in the shower.
How Do I Get Rid Of Fleas On My Cat!?
Note: Never apply essential oil directly to your cat. Although the oil is safe for cats, cats are usually very sensitive to essential oils and are likely to have a reaction.
Keep in mind that completely eliminating fleas can be difficult, but by using these methods together, you should be able to kill existing fleas and prevent new flea infestations.
