Decorating Living Room Ideas On A Budget
Over the years of decorating my space, from my room at my parent’s house, to my bedroom, to my apartment, I have collected a few tips, tricks and secrets that make decorating my space a make budgeting easy and exciting.
Easy Spring Decorating Ideas
I hope this gives you a chance to breathe and realize, yes, your space can look great and not break the bank. It is possible, I promise!
One of the most important steps (and my favorite) is creating a vision board – this is extremely important because, like everything else in life, you don’t want to be blindsided and then have a disaster.
I like to start with a clear vision of what colors I vibrate with, what styles speak to me, etc. If you’re ever stuck and don’t know where you want to go, create a vision board. Even if you think the inspiration images you use don’t go together, eventually they will (99% of the time).
Everyone has their own style when it comes to creating a vision. For me personally, I want to do my work on Pinterest. It’s the easiest way I’ve found and they usually have all the inspiration I need and more.

After I create a Pinterest vision board, I copy and paste the photo into a Google Doc, print it, cut it out, glue it to the board, and voila, the vision board is done. Creating vision boards is also very therapeutic and motivational (can you tell I love them?).
As I said before, there are many ways to create a vision board. For you, the best way may be to take photos from magazines, use Instagram, or put them back on Tumblr (they have really good photos).
If you don´t want to bother cutting out images, you can still make a Pinterest vision board, just don´t print it! You should get a better picture of the style you are looking for.
God, this tip is so important. Really, if you have space, stick to lighter colors!! I promise that when you get your mansion, you’ll be able to pull off your moody dark colors, but the lighter colors will make your entire space look 10x bigger than it really is.

Also the paint is not expensive!! This is something you can do in a weekend that will transform your space. Dark colors absorb all the light in the room, especially if they are small. But that doesn’t mean you can only use white, if you like blue there are many beautiful light blues that will look great. Stick to your favorites, try to be as light as possible when it comes to walls and large pieces (such as furniture, paintings, etc.).
Apartments are notoriously small and you don’t want to accidentally create a very claustrophobic room – this is a great tip if you’re on a budget because I’m basically telling you not to buy more than you need. Less is more. I repeat, less is more.
Too much detail can do more harm than good. Simple and minimal is great for an apartment, and I promise you, when it all comes together, it won’t look simple! You try to put a puzzle together and you get overwhelmed when every piece is too complicated.
Curtains!! Seriously, they get the job done. I love adding curtains to my space when I want a little spice and feel a little more luxurious. Really, add curtains if you want to put together haha. Thanks to them, your place will look 10 times more expensive.

Thanks, frugality is culturally acceptable (just kidding, this is what’s “trendy” and it never stops me). Thrifting is great because you can find unique pieces that will make your space completely unique. Also the prices are amazing for the most part.
When you’re saving up, you need to put on your creative hat, most of the pieces are great but may require a quick DIY. But I promise, at the end of the day you will be so thankful you saved!
If you don’t need it, don’t buy it. No ifs, ands, or buts. If you’re on a budget, stick to essential and timeless pieces to gather the perfect pieces for your space.

In today’s world we are constantly bombarded with new content and things to buy. We can get so overwhelmed that the only way to release that feeling is to fill the space. However, it will make you feel more claustrophobic and overwhelmed. Like I said before, less is more!
With the last thought, but try to leave room for growth. You don’t have to throw a lot of money overboard at once. Your style will evolve as you do, so leave a little room in your space so the two of you can grow together!

Before you buy, think about what you already have. By refocusing on layout, you can update your living room without making a splash. So instead of sticking to the same traditional layout in your living room – coffee table in the middle, sofa against one wall, TV at one end – why not do something more interesting by pulling the furniture away from the wall; or using artwork as a focal point (instead of a TV); Or simply clean and tidy furniture to enlarge the living room.

Before you blow your small budget on new pieces, look around your house and see if you can borrow something from other rooms. You may find that a piece of furniture sitting in your bedroom will work better in your living room, or look in your attic or garage to see if neglected pieces can be repurposed.
Top Tip: If you find a great find, but it doesn’t match your existing living room, painting the furniture will bring it into line with your plan.
