It’s a micro, millennial on a budget. Alexandra Gator is a 28-year-old interior YouTuber who primarily creates rental properties.
One of her best decisions is an apartment in Toronto, where she has lived since December 2018.
One of Gator’s top tips for moving house is lighting. It gives your home a fresh coat of paint with vibrant color.
“Pay extra to have it painted white or any color you want. When we moved, it was really refreshing,” she said.

“I really like it because I want a pink bed,” she says. But I don’t want to spend $3,000 on a pink couch that I’m going to sit on for a long time,” she said.
It’s important to have a comfortable rug – make sure it’s big enough for the main furniture and doesn’t float in the middle of the room.
“Any piece of furniture in your living room should sit on top of the rug, but if you’re working in a small space, that can be difficult,” Gator said.
“So I flipped my rug vertically so all the furniture would match. It actually made the space look bigger.

Gator created a gallery wall and invested in a wall-mounted TV that displays your favorite artwork when you don’t turn it on.
She keeps telegraph wires and other trinkets in baskets to hide them, and like a millennial, she has lots of houseplants.
“I like to throw them in the bin because they’re so pretty you can’t see the mess,” Gator said.

Be sure to invest in a quality and comfortable sofa. Do you enjoy entertaining and hosting dinner parties? Buy a quality dining table with comfortable seats.
SS: Objects and pillows. There are tons of great home decor stores at great prices (like HomeGoods) and endless Etsy shops that sell beautiful pillow covers. Be sure to invest in low entries. Your pillows will look more luxurious.
SS: The most difficult thing, perhaps, is the relationship between a small budget and a rented apartment. In a perfect world I would paint the wood trim and doors and change the ceiling to do something bold and fun. I think I’m most proud of layered textures, a way to add layers to a space without adding color while still being cozy and comfortable.

PS: How can you style and insulate a new home when you’re on a budget that limits how much you can buy?
SS: I’m a firm believer that you don’t need a lot of things to complete your space. These three things – clothing, color and scale – when you think about it, can make any space cozy. floor area; Add shelter, vintage pieces, or combinations with natural fibers. Apply a layer color to add depth, even if it’s neutral. Three colors – one light; Choose a dark color and something in the middle and distribute it throughout the space. Finally, go bang or go home. Great works of art; Floor-to-ceiling mirrors and large rugs emphasize the height or width of a room. If you are worried about living in a small space; Pay attention to this tip as it will make your space look bigger.
SS: It’s hard to design all the empty space at once. It never happens on the weekend. Don’t feel pressured to slowly expand your space until you find something you really like.
