Planning this space was a little more difficult than I thought. We polled the Instagram community for insights and experiences on the current layout. Pinterest’s perfect laundry room design is exactly what I was looking for. However, many say it is too unrealistic.
Open shelves in a warehouse are a recipe for disaster. So I compromised on an open shelf with a basket between the two upper cabinets.
My husband put up a fence to hide the bad ducts/utilities behind the washer and dryer + folding table.

The Best Basement Laundry Room Renovation Ideas
It’s no exaggeration to say that over the past 15 years we’ve completed DIY home renovations. This is our most expansive, challenging and most rewarding project.
We literally built this room from scratch. We started this project with two washing machines in the middle of a large unfinished room. While it actually works, all we need is a beautiful and custom laundry room. You need a place to place the washing machine that is not a concrete floor. Plenty of light to store laundry and laundry baskets and decent counter space instead of a folding table to store our clothes. maybe
To add functionality and make it more beautiful, our plan was to turn the large utility room into a separate main utility room. Combines a laundry room and exercise space with help from The Home Depot Canada.
Before we get into the details, here’s a couple of happy (and tired) developers. Let’s recap where this room started. This renovation required a lot of effort to split the utility room in two and finish all surfaces in the laundry room.
Budget Laundry Room Makeover: The Before
Building a custom laundry room means installing new flooring. Rebuilding the walls brought in HVAC technicians and electricians to handle some of the work. We framed the ceiling I had two different heights (three different heights) and I installed a thick sheet of drywall on top and sanded it down to muddy it. It’s something we’ve never done before
Trying something you’ve never done before can be difficult. We learn a lot by watching YouTube videos through trial and error. And according to experts at The Home Depot Canada, we argue, we fight, and we make mistakes. And we’ve spent days covered in drywall dust, but we’ve done it, and building this room is probably one of the things we’re most proud of as a married couple.
When the structure is in place, we then move on to the design details: peel-and-stick wallpaper installation. The floors were laminated, the walls painted and the deck installed. A locker is a combination of ready-made cabinets that we buy off the shelf. Panels and shelves made by us.
What I like about this project is the availability and convenience of different shopping options. We can save a lot of time and energy by shopping online at homedepot.ca and having larger, claustrophobic items like 6-piece cabinets and 7-inch cupboards delivered to our doorstep.
Laundry Room Makeover
It’s harder to find products like single doors in a specific size. So you can shop online while stocks last. Choose an option. “Pick up in store” and pick up the door as you like. It’s nice to know that you already have all the equipment you need to complete your renovation.
Of course, you can also shop in the store. I’ll never forget tonight in a rented Home Depot Canada van with 15 burgers and drywall in the back!
Laundry Room Layout Laundry room layout is difficult to define. Closet space is limited in some of the rooms due to low ceiling height.
The laundry room’s L-shaped layout maximizes storage space and provides lots of open space. I have a laundry tub that was installed many years ago by the previous owner. And fortunately, this arrangement allowed us to place the laundry cart under the rails to catch the fallen laundry. Or remove the cart as needed.

The other side of the room serves as a small training area. There’s plenty of space for an indoor bike trainer, yoga mat and wall-mounted TV. The last laundry room also had a TV. And highly recommended for more fun activities and laundry!
We use new cabinets to store our workout equipment. Laundry room is not very big. So it’s a good idea to keep everything neatly organized when not in use.
This room has many interesting details that turn a simple laundry room into a place to have fun.
In terms of design, we tried to create a comfortable and beautiful laundry room that is in harmony with the rest of the space. We know if you want a bright laundry room in our basement or if you want a bright laundry room. A room without windows doesn’t feel too dark. Like the rest, it has a neutral and bright color palette. Plans For My Basement/laundry Room — The Modern Renovator
Home Depot Cabinets for Laundry: For storage we use Edson Gray composite cabinets from the Hampton Bay line available at Home Depot in Canada. We chose this particular line because cabinet sizes vary. Accessories such as side panels and cover panels are available. neutral color
Installation is very easy. And I installed the cabinets in a matter of hours. Although the laundry room is perfect with this cabinet. But we added some unique DIY details to make this space really special. It’s surprisingly easy to create custom pieces for your cabinets at The Home Depot Canada using melamine panels, veneer trim, and BEHR Dynasty paint.
One of the added elements is a custom storage tower under the bottom panel. The two upper cabinets were combined and panels were used to hide the seams and free up space above them. This extra space provides more space for laundry essentials and workout gear.
We also made interlocking panels to create shelves for laundry baskets and countertop supports above washing machines. My favorite DIY detail is the custom toe decoration I added to my sink cabinet. This base cabinet is very easy to build and install.

Solid Surface Corian Countertops: One of our biggest design decisions is the choice of material for the countertop. There are many options for laundry room counters. You can choose laminate counter tops. Butcher block counters, natural stone or stainless steel like a former laundry room.
For this room, I choose Corian’s Solid Surface. There are Corian counters.
